Alla Kvinnors Hus - All Womens House
Millions of women are annually
subjected to abuse and assulted by men known to them. Our
association is Europe's largest women's shelter.
About us
All Womens House runs
a protective housing shelter for women and children in central
Stockholm. The organisation is a voluntary, feminist association
with non-political interests. All Womens House has about 500 members
of which 100 are actively employed in voluntary refuge work. All
women exposed to mens´s violence are welcome to seek help,
regardless of background or nationality.
The association was founded in the fall of 1978 as Sweden’s first independent
shelter organisation. The organisation is financed by membershep fees, community
grants, donations and contributions from individuals and companies.
Help lines
We offer support and counceling through our help lines and every
year we get thousands of calls. For many women calling us, it is the first time
they have a chance to talk about their situation of abuse. The call can be the
first step towards a change. We have help lines for different support groups.
Call our help line telephone number 08- 644 09 20 every evening from 6 pm to
9 pm.
- Support group for legal questions; call every Wednesday and Sunday
- Support group
for teenage girls and young women; call every Thursday
- Support group for the deaf; call Thursdays
on even weeks on 08-615 13 58 and 08-615 13 59
During days the best time to call
is from 10 am to 12 noon.
During the nights and week-ends our volonteer women manage the help lines. To
ensure high quality in our operations, training gives refuge workers the
required knowledge needed to support those who call.

Support and Advice
We can, with aid from lawyers, provide legal support and
advice for individual women, directing them in how to proceed with their case.
We support immigrant women, to the widest possible degree, and try to see that
they can use their own language.
Women who turn to All Womens House
can receive councelling in group discussions.
The group can share experiences and on the way give each other mutual support.
We also provide a refuge worker to accompany the woman on trials, visits to the
police or doctor and other contacts with authorities.
Team for raped women (Team för Våldtagna Kvinnor) are directed to girls and
women who have been exposed to obligatory sex or rape, and also to their
relatives. The Team offers support and crisis councelling. They also work very
actively with education and information, together with The Crisis Centre for
Women (Kriscentrum för kvinnor)
Sheltered Living
Sometimes women and children have to leave their home, due
to violence or threat of violence. We can give them temporary shelter in our
house on Svartensgatan in Södermalm. The women and their children have their own
room or flat where they cater for themselves. Our goal is that their stay at the
shelter should be as short as possible. On average women stay for 35 days.
Child Activities
The majority of women who contact us have children. As a
child, to see your mother abused and exposed to assault, is an act of violence
in itself. All Womens House give the children special support where supportive
councelling and group work are important parts.
Spreading Knowledge
The need for spreading information about men’s violence to women is very large. We campaign to influence public opinion and participate in both
external arrangements as well as organising our own meetings and functions.
To
spread knowledge we arrange seminars, lectures and discussions. Every year we
also have hundreds of study tours for visitors, individuals, groups, authorities
and foreign guests.
